Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Hot Tuna Offer!!!

This is an offer to all Hot Tuna/Jorma fanatics here on the forum. I have just converted a Hot Tuna show from tape to digital. To the first TEN folks who e-mail me their postal address, i will mail you the lossless FLAC files on one CD disk. Lossless is my preferred trading method. Of course, i realize that there are some/many here who do not work within the lossless realm, and so if you really, really must have this show and cannot convert from FLAC into WAV, please indicate in your e-mail to me and i will send you the show on two CDs ready for playing in your player. If you live overseas, not a problem, will send airmail too.

As most here know, Hot Tuna does not support the uploading of their shows via bit torrent, thus my offer here, else i would upload to one of the usual trackers.

This show is really quite nice, with very good sound, and a setlist that has many of the regular rotation Hot Tuna staples. Killing Time In The Crystal City is a particular standout for me, as is the Mann's Fate.

I will post the setlist below, but just to let you know that i tracked this so that the tuning/crowd between-song segments are left at the end of the tracks, and so each track begins at start of song, though i think in one or two tracks i left a tiny bit of the pre-song noodling on there. However, i tracked this as best i could.

I am not an audio genius. I have converted many, many tapes into digital largely for my own use. I think i do alright given my limited knowledge and equipment. If any of you have tapes that are just rotting away, and you think they may be something that should be brought out into the light, please convert them into digital. Yes, many prefer tapes, but realistically speaking, the shelf life of that analog tape is limited at best. Get them converted. If you have questions about doing this, e-mail me.

This show is NOT found listed at etree. However, it IS found at tunabase:

http://www.tunabase.com/main.html

It is the complete show as is circulated and known.

This will not fit on one 80 minute disk. I could have shaved off some of the tuning/crowd portions to fit on one disk. However, that would have been sacriligious, because if you know Jorma/Hot Tuna, then you of course know that even when Jorma is tuning, it is a pleasure to listen to. He is that good, and probably after Jerry, one of my favourite guitarists, and in moments, my favourite.

Please when you e-mail me, indicate in the subject line something like Hot Tuna Show, since i don't want to confuse it with the multitude of spam that works its way through the e-mail filters.

And to all those who trade with me regularly, and who desire this show, just get in touch with me via the usual channels.

Lastly, i don't know how many will respond to this post. I only ask that if i receive more than TEN requests, that someone of the TEN who do receive this show, post a re-offer here on the forum. Wish i could provide a sample of the sound, because this show really is quite sweet. Enjoy!

Cool site dude, you rock!

Cliff just thought of a question:

Has Papa John Creach ever sat in with the Dead or JGB or Mickey & the Hartbeats, etc?

This is truly tragic!

Both Auds here are unlistenable, but you can just about tell that some special shit was taking place at the 49th St. Rock Palace!

Cliff might consider sacrificing a teste for a crisp recording of Jer trading licks with Jorma & Papa John on Johns Other...

Hmm, my brain is taxed on this question! However, i am 99% certain that Papa John did not sit in on any JGB shows, but if so, would love to know of it. I'll leave the more precise answers to those more knowledgeable ...

I may be 'recovering,' but this is just what the doctor ordered.

Count me in. You know where to find me. But, as I will be away for a while, if others in 'need' reply, feel free to 'bump' me in the interests of educating some poor soul in need of musical enlightenment.

Thanks, Arbuthnot; a truer forumite, there never was...

Hey Arbuthnot, I'm still on the list right? HUGE Tuna fan. Wish I knew why Jorma was so damn stingy with taping. It's not like he's/they're offering up much to even pay for from the Tuna site ( like three or four shows I think ). Oh well, pshyched as hell they're finally coming up here this summer. I have quite a few tapes, some of them are definately worth converting to CD in light of no Hot Tuna available to even torrent.

Are you going? I have my Anchorage tickets ( front row baby! ). I'd like to catch them all but there's no way I see myself driving from Fairbanks to Anchorage the day after that show. I'm hoping I can catch Homer, take a day off and then the Anchorage show. Wish they were doing an electric set too but I'm not complaining.I've been trying to get them to come up here for awhile. I tried to get the Bear Tooth to bring them but they didn't think they'd make enough $

Same- Homer then Anchorage. Should be a good time. Very much looking forward to it. As you know we don't always get the best music.

Wish they would play the Brown Bear over in Indian.

Never heard of the Brown Bear. Ever been to any Bear Tooth shows? That's my personal favorite because you can move around freely and drink the whole time unlike the PAC.

Trust me I know about not getting any shows up here. Although sometimes that's a blessing for me because I have two young kids. It's easier to not have any shows than miss out on ones.

Hey Willow. The Cracker version is on their album Kerosene Hat. VERY worth getting. Here's a live version from the archive ( not quite as good as the studio version imo but still good ).

Thanks j, I'll listen tonight. I vaguely remember (could be wrong though) that Dave Alvin or Tom Russell or Joe Ely or someone covered it recently too, I'll have to look into that. All the best man!
